Audible.co.uk today announced the release of Bill Bryson for the Love Hearts Appeal, a previously unpublished anecdote written and recorded by the internationally best-selling author. Bill Bryson for the Love Hearts Appeal is available free at Audible.co.uk and the audiobook provider will donate 50p per download from Audible.co.uk to the Love Hearts Appeal for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.
The 12-minute download is a must for any fans of Bill’s work. With trademark wit, Bill divulges his unfortunate “genius for painful outcomes.” This hilarious account of his own encounters with injury accompanies Bill’s depiction of a truly heroic person he knows.
Bill has supported the Love Hearts Appeal since meeting student Catherine McLachlan in his role as Chancellor at Durham University. After receiving a heart transplant aged 15, Catherine and her family set up the Appeal to support Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity. In 2011 Bill became patron of the Appeal which funds cardiac research and raises awareness for more people to join the organ donor register.
Bill Bryson said: “I have been to Great Ormond Street Hospital and seen the work they do there. It is one of the world’s greatest paediatric hospitals and truly one of the glories of Britain. Please download this story from Audible.co.uk; the more it gets downloaded, the more money goes to Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.”
Laurence Howell, Audible, said: “Bill Bryson is one of Britain’s best loved writers; whatever topic he writes about is brought to life with humour, verve and gumption. It is our pleasure to be able to make more of Bill’s brilliant work available to listeners, and assist in supporting Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity in the process, especially as Bill’s narration captures perfectly the special intimacy that an audio recording of real sensitivity can achieve.”
Katie Simmons; Senior Fundraising Manager at Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity said “The Love Hearts Appeal has supported the charity for many years now and we are so grateful for the support of all those involved. Proceeds from the free download will go towards helping more patients who require critical cardiac care”.

ABOUT THE LOVE HEARTS APPEAL

In 2012 the appeal reached its fundraising target. Amazed by the support received, the family is continuing to fundraise through the Love Hearts Appeal to support research into cardiac conditions in paediatric patients.
