Day One of #LondonBookFair and Sofa-so-good

Tuesday, April 14th 2015

I have just had one of the busiest and most rewarding days out I can remember.
I’ve walked miles, met friends old and new and done nothing but been absorbed in the world of books for the entire day.
I was a little stunned at the size of some of the furniture there though !
(I think the Alice in Wonderland theme had spread across Olympia in parts).
Really looking forward to the next two days at the fair, but dreading the return to my real job on Friday – so hoping the clock runs really slow until then – don’t want to be running around like that white rabbit!…

For updates on the investigation and developments in the case best you get yourself following #KillerFest15 or, better still, get yourself signed up for the festival right HERE.…

Self-Publishing in the Digital Age (A Writers & Artists one day conference) – Part One.

Wednesday, December 3rd 2014

On Saturday I attended my second ‘Self-Publishing’ conference organised and run by ‘Writers & Artists‘ at the Wellcome Collection building in Euston.
I’d been before, a few years back, so pretty much knew what to expect and even some of the speakers were authors and publishing professionals I’d seen at the previous event. But none of that mattered as I always come away from these events with new ideas, new ways of thinking about getting things done and, above all else, a positive feeling that serves as a welcome boost to creativity and a desire to get more done.
In recent months my writing has slowed to a standing stop, my NaNoWriMo efforts kept stalling and my day job has been doing everything in its power to crush any ounce of creativity from me, so this was a very welcome re-charge and a Christmas present to self all tied up in a nice one day event bundle.…

Tuesday 8th-Thursday 10th April 2014, Earls Court, London

Author HQ is the place at The London Book Fair for established and aspiring authors and there is plenty on offer at this year’s Fair. Launched as a response to increasing interest from the self-publishing community, and sponsored by Kindle Direct Publishing, LBF will host a three day seminar programme featuring a fantastic line up of speakers including publishers, authors and agents, who will share their advice and experience on how to get published successfully.

Seminars will cover a whole range of subject areas from advice on how authors can help readers discover their books; the increasing opportunities around publishing short form fiction and non-fiction; contract negotiation and the types of deals first-time authors can expect; through to how to self-publish successfully from the point of view of authors who have already done so; the future of the book in the 21st century; and a session on what book reviewers are looking for, featuring Daily Mail literary editor Sandra Parsons.
